Seventh Punch

[For tonight's entertainment Maoh will be attempting to use Kanji's gear as a surf board! He toddles his way on over to the pool but before he's able to use the device as a floaty he slips on a tiny puddle and falls in instead. Unfortunately, as the gear is on the ground all the viewers can see is the sky above. Though-- if you listen carefully you can hear the Pichu's small, yet frantic splashing. However, as time goes on the splashing noises start to decrease.

A couple of minutes pass as a dark blur zooms by the gear and a big splash is heard a few seconds after. Up pops on the screen is a very wet, very out of breath, very disgruntled looking Kanji.]

D-Dammit Maoh. I--I told you to stay away from the pool.

[The small Pichu he has in his lap looks a bit lifeless. Though it may look bleak, Maoh is breathing. He pushes his damp bangs out of his face.]

S-Shit... I hope it's... not to late. I don't... I don't even know what to do. [by this point it looks like he's going to have a panic attack.] Those.... those c-centers would help, right? Shit why did this have to happen!?

[Stopping abruptly behind him, not expecting that.]

Dude...? [You rushed here to stop in front of the door why would you do that.]

[HE CAN'T HELP IT OKOK? He jumps slightly, not really expecting to hear Yosuke's sudden remark as to why he stopped.]

W-What? [look, nothing wrong here! And with that he tugs on the door harshly.]

N-nothing, never mind.

[He cocks his head to the side slightly. What the hell was that about?? Whatever Yosuke, not important right now. Inside. Let's go.]

[As soon as he stepped inside he slowly but surely made his way over to one of the Nurses and started asking her questions and whatnot. A couple of minutes later he walks back looking more depressed than he did when he was back at the house.]

She said that he got here in time, but she can't tell me more than that since he's still in the ER.

[He'd waited as patiently as he could, arms folded and tapping his foot - until he saw Kanji's expression. His own instantly crumbled a bit too, but...]

He-- He's gonna be fine, dude. He'll be good as new in no time.

Yeah-- I just... [he looks to the side as he jams his hands into his pockets.] I just don't wanna lose him too.

You're not-- [But he doesn't finish, catching the end of that and looking over to him with a bit of confusion.] Wait, "too?"

[he nods.] I lost my old man when I was younger.

O-oh, crap-- [For some reason he didn't expect that at all. His eyes widen a bit, though his expression is still somber.] S-sorry dude. I had no idea.

's not your fault, man. It's not like I walk around tellin' people about it. The only ones who know are Souji-senpai, and now you and Rise.

O-oh... [He falls silent for a second. There's something about that statement that has a bit more weight to it. But that could make things weird quick, huh? So, backpedaling a bit.] We-well, you're... you're not, okay? Gonna lose Maoh, I mean.

Just... sit down. I'll go get a couple of drinks from the vending machine, okay?

[he nods as he sinks into one of the chairs closest to him.] Yeah. Thanks man.

[He slips away for a second; in all honesty, he needed a minute to process all of that and convince himself that Maoh would be okay. He had to.]

[After a few, he comes back, flopping into the chair next to Kanji and holding out a can for him.] Guess we got a while, huh.

Guess we do. [and with that he takes the can and opens it out of habit. 'cause he's probably not gonna drink much of it.]

[He falls quiet - he really isn't very good at this kind of stuff, as hard as he's trying. He really didn't expect to be in a situation like this with Kanji of all people, but it's hitting home hard. He can imagine what it would be like if it were Chie (the Scyther, of course) or Jiraiya, and it instantly makes him lose his taste for the canned coffee. He puts it on the floor between his feet, letting out a sigh.]

[lost in his own thoughts about how this hospital seems to be getting smaller and smaller by the second he looks up at Yosuke when he hears him sigh.]

S-Somethin' bothering ya senpai?

O-oh, uh... [He shrugs a little, looking over to Kanji.] It's just been a... weird few weeks, I guess.

It's not important really, I was just thinking about it in light of all this stuff right now...

Man you're telling me. The move did a complete number on me. [he looks at Yosuke.] Well man, if you wanna talk about stuff I ain't goin' anywhere. [sob, he just-- wants to take his mind off of things]

[He looks over, pretty surprised at that. He kind of gets it though, changing the subject in a tough situation is something he's familiar with.]

Oh, uh... [Yep, he says that for the second time in a row.] Thanks, man. Like hell if I knew where to start.

[Definitely not at "So I may be in love with our team leader," that's for sure.]

You could start with the thing that's really buggin' ya or work your way up to it. [he pauses as he fiddles with the soda tab.] Personally I find working my way up to be the easiest. But people are different and junk.

Yeah, I guess. [He looks down at the floor, picking up the can by its rim.] It's just... weird, you know? Ever since that weekend -- the one nobody remembers, when Souji ended up in the Ice Path?

There's something about it. A lot of things, I guess.

The weekend where-- oh... Oh yeah, I remember that. What about it? From all the stuff senpai said it took for him to get outta that stupid cave I don't think I'd ever wanna be in there.

I dunno, it bothered me? [Well, this sounds stupid, doesn't it.] He was being such an idiot about all of it, like we weren't gonna worry when he was in there with no supplies. And no idea how he got there.

Everything's been kinda... weird since then. I think it's just because of this place though.

[So many things he wants to say, but he just doesn't know how with Kanji.]

[he rubs his head in thought.] Well did you tell him? How you felt? That you thought that he was out of line with the way he was acting?

Well, yeah. But you know how he is.... stubborn and all. [A sigh.] It's not really about that part though, you know? I mean, I'm over it.
