Seventh Punch

[For tonight's entertainment Maoh will be attempting to use Kanji's gear as a surf board! He toddles his way on over to the pool but before he's able to use the device as a floaty he slips on a tiny puddle and falls in instead. Unfortunately, as the gear is on the ground all the viewers can see is the sky above. Though-- if you listen carefully you can hear the Pichu's small, yet frantic splashing. However, as time goes on the splashing noises start to decrease.

A couple of minutes pass as a dark blur zooms by the gear and a big splash is heard a few seconds after. Up pops on the screen is a very wet, very out of breath, very disgruntled looking Kanji.]

D-Dammit Maoh. I--I told you to stay away from the pool.

[The small Pichu he has in his lap looks a bit lifeless. Though it may look bleak, Maoh is breathing. He pushes his damp bangs out of his face.]

S-Shit... I hope it's... not to late. I don't... I don't even know what to do. [by this point it looks like he's going to have a panic attack.] Those.... those c-centers would help, right? Shit why did this have to happen!?

Kanji!?

[ so, um, Rise's actually out training this hopeless baby owl, but she's already reaching for a Pokéball-- presumably Rosemary's. ]

Calm down! Get him to the Center, all right? I'll meet you there!

[he doesn't need to be told twice. HE'S RUNNANNNN LIKE THE WINNND. He just needed a breather yeah.]

Got it.

Good-- let me know where you'll be!

[He nods and continues running. A few minutes later he's finally at the Center. It looks like he's chillin' on one of the couches by the front. He clears his throat.]

Uhh-- I'm by the front. Kinda close to the doors?

Got it--!

[ and she disconnects. It won't be more than five minutes before she comes running in, pink-faced and almost out of breath and looking around for him. ]

[And there he is, sitting on the couches closets to the doors, looking all kinds of tense. Forgive him if he doesn't recognize you right away, he's pretty much lost in thought. ~~And trying to control his urges to freak the fuck out.~~]

...

[ well, it gives her a few seconds to catch her breath and compose herself, before she leans over in front of him, hands on her knees. ]

Heeeeeeey. Kanjiiiiiii.

[DIGHAOSDFJ-- GIVE SOME KINDA WARNIN' MANNN. Kanji jumps backwards and ends up bumping his head against the wall.]

Jeez--warn someone before you do that!

I told you I'd be right there, didn't I? Gee, you've gotta be more alert!

Sorry, I was just... thinkin' about Maoh.

How is he?

[ plopping down beside him with no further preamble; this is Rise, after all. ]

He's... I-- I dunno. He went in a while ago.

... He'll be okay, Kanji. He's just as tough as his trainer, you know?

[Kanji clasps his hands on his knees and looks away.]

Yeah-- I know. I just... I just...

[ she's quiet for now, waiting for him to finish with a slightly expectant expression. Maybe he doesn't talk as much as she does, but that makes it even more necessary to listen when he does get like this. ]

I just wish I could've done more for him. Here he is in the-- in the ER and I can't even... I can't even get enough courage to get closer! [he gives a frustrated sigh.] I just-- I don't... I don't want to lose him.

W-whoa, who said anything about losing?? I mean, I don't know if they'd even let you in the ER and you're right here, aren't you? You're still supporting him!

I was talkin' about bein' closer to where the ER is... Not... not bein' in it.

... Sorry, I could just see you kicking down the door...

I dunno if I could bring myself to do that. Hell, I couldn't even walk into this place right away. I had to wait so I could pick up my nerve.

Kanji, you... don't like hospitals, do you?

[he shakes his head.] No. My--uhh... dad died in one when I was younger.

[ ... she didn't expect that, and it's clear from her expression that she didn't. And what do you even say-- ]

It's... not as bad as it was when I was home, but there's still that worry-- and I just... don't wanna lose anyone, ever. [he finally tears his eyes away from the floor and looks at her.] That's why I freaked out at you and Yosuke-senpai when you guys... lost your souls.

[ a pause to think back to that-- and then to the last time they'd sat together in a hospital, except then her eyes darken. It had been painful enough worrying about Nanako, but what had it been like for Kanji, who had lost someone? And just how much worse had it been for him when a new loss had been added? ]

You were really hurting, huh...? And I had no idea...
