Body and Appearance
♘ Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?

Kanji is six foot and weighs roughly 143 pounds. A good chunk of that is probably his muscle mass. Since before going into the dungeons he was pretty strong. He's very tall and very muscley, basically. (The second tallest in all of the persona games, now that I think about it...)

♘ How old is he?

By the end of the game he's 16.

♘ Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?

He carries himself tall and proud, but in the beginning it was only for show. So people could leave him alone. He still carries himself in the same manner at the end of the game, but this time he actually means everything.

♘ How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?

He's a healthy boy and has an equally healthy appetite! No weird illnesses, conditions, or disabilities here.

♘ How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?

He walks with a swagger; don't hate the player, hate the game.

♘ How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?

He... isn't exactly the most attractive guy in Inaba, but he's not exactly revolting either. Though, he isn't very much concerned with his looks or how attractive he may appear to others. That's the least of his worries actually.

♘ Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?

He's kind of sort of tan? He's definitely darker looking then some of his friends, but he can still come off looking pale in some pictures.

♘ Describe his hair: color, texture, style.

One can only go on so much to what his natural color would be, but, just basing this off of what his eyebrows are then his natural color has to be a darkish brown? THOUGH THIS DOESN'T MAKE ONE BIT A DIFFERENCE SINCE HE BLEACHES IT. He also gels it back! I imagine he'd look more normal if he didn't bleach/gel his hair back.

♘ What color are his eyes?

A very nice baby blue.

♘ Does the character have any other noteworthy features?

He's got a tattoo on the upper part of his right arm. (whether it's real or not seems to be a thing in the P4 fandom :Ia my guess is that it's either real, or a temporary tattoo.) He's also got a scar on the right side of his temple, just a bit above his eyebrow.

♘ What are his chief tension centers?

Definitely his shoulders and arms since he wields such a huge weapon and has to lug it around in every single dungeon. I can also see another source of tension being his temples.

♘ What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?

It all depends on what the weather's like, really. Tight jeans and a pair of boots are a definite though. Under his school uniform he wears a long sleeved purple shirt in the fall/winter time and a tank top with a graphic print during the spring/summer time. He usually wears his school jacket on his shoulders. Outside of school he wears just about the same thing with a black leather jacket on particularly cold days.

After viewing a couple of screen caps from P4G he wears baggy clothes when they're skiing.

♘ Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?

I'd assume so since there might be the chance that he tailors his own clothes.

♘ Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?

Pretty much, yeah. When he's at school he wears his own shirt underneath his school jacket. Fuck da police.

♘ You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?

Most definitely boxers. (but I can see him owning a couple of briefs.)

Speech
♘ What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?

He's got a deepish voice in the dub. I'm not exactly 100% sure what it is he (besides his shadow) sounds like in the original. But I'm assuming it's somewhere between a mediumish low octave.

♘ How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?

He speaks his mind, most of the time. But that doesn't necessarily mean he has foot/mouth syndrome. He does do it on occasion, but only when he's really worked up over something. He can definitely be rash and not think his words over. He also chops his words a bit. Like: I'm thinkin' about headin' over to Junes, wanna come?

♘ Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?

I believe he has some kind of dialect accent in the original. He doesn't have much of an accent in the dub though. Sure he clips his words (the way I view it is he talks like a southerner), but that's just him being a punk.

♘ What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?

The only language he knows is Japanese. He fails hardcore at English since he skipped out on school a lot.

♘ Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?

Nnnnnnnope.

♘ Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?

I don't really see him much as an impromptu speaker, but he does blurt things out before thinking them over. But, again, that only happens when he's really worked up.

♘ Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?

Probably somewhere in the middle. He ain't no genius. But he isn't dumb as fuck either.

Mental and Emotional
♘ How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?

What he lacks in book-smarts he makes up in being street-smart. He knows how to survive out in the world, and uses it well when he fights.

♘ Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?

Again, it depends on the situation, but when it comes to certain things he's definitely the type to think on his feet.

♘ Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?

Intuitive, definitely intuitive. He usually goes with his gut instincts. Now sometimes it may be wrong, especially when it comes to certain things, but he'll stick with it until someone tells him otherwise.

♘ What kind of education has the character had?

Currently, he's on his way to being a junior (second year) in high school.

But that doesn't really mean anything since he skipped out a lot pre-game.

♘ What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?

Anything that involves any kind of crafts. Need help with an art project? He'll do it for you. Need a patch up job with a bag or a skirt that needs mending? He's your guy. My headcanon also says that he's pretty good at baking. :|a

♘ Is he an introvert or an extrovert?

At the beginning of the game he was definitely an introvert. Now? He's... probably still an introvert, but less of what it was like in the beginning. If anything he's probably right in the middle.

♘ Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?

When he's around friends he's definitely laid back. Say something stupid to piss him off and he'll... be pissed off. Easy as that. He is very driven though. Now anyways. At the beginning of the game he was kind of going at it the wrong way.

♘ How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?

He's a little bit guarded around new people as it's hard to just drop everything and be friends with everyone right off the bat. It's a work in process. Once he gets to know someone he tends to relax. But if you throw him into something he's unfamiliar with then he's going to react negatively about it. (But, it depends on the situation. Also, the same could be said with people.)

♘ Is he more likely to act, or to react?

More likely to react. He's very driven and if something were to just... interrupt his train of thought then he'll act accordingly.

♘ Which is his default: fight or flight?

Fight, most definitely fight. It isn't in his nature to leave or flee. Unless things are really fucked over in a battle.

♘ Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?

He appreciates a good joke every now and then! But if it's a joke about himself then prepare to eat dirt :'|b

♘ Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?

Nnnnope.

♘ What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?

When he faced himself in the TV world is one of them, most definitely. It showed him what he was hiding, and then the end of his social link because he was able to figure out what it exactly means to be a man. And that sewing, may be girly, but it's his thing and he shouldn't always keep thinking that girls will tease him because of it.

♘ What does he fear?

FOR LIKING MEEEN (FUU) Being judged for his interests and hobbies.

♘ What are his hopes or aspirations?

Other then making dolls/oven mitt dolls, heee doesn't have much right now, but I've a feeling it'll involve sewing. I can totally see him taking over the shop or becoming this ace tailor or something in the future :|a

♘ What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?

THAT HE LIKES MEN, no I kid. In the beginning he didn't want anybody to find out about his hobbies and his strange love of cute things. Now, he's still a bit guarded about it (hey, he's working on it!), but he's less likely to bite your head off for berating him for his choice in hobbies!

Relationships
♘ Describe this character's relationship with his parents.

Welp, his dad is dead. But he has one of the best relationships one could have with his mom. He's kind of a momma's boy? In a sense, anyways. He did take out a bunch of biker gang thugs for her because they wouldn't shut up. :|

♘ Does the character have any siblings? What is their relationship like?

He is sadly an only child :(

♘ Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?

They don't really go that far into the game. Sooo, I have no clue.

♘ Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?

He definitely considers the Team to be apart of his family. They've been through it all, and they've seen each other at their worst.

♘ Who is the character's best friend? How did they meet?

Rise Kujikawa aaand Naoto Shirogane. He met Rise at her grandparents' tofu shop. The one thing I love about his friendship with Rise is that he doesn't give a flying fuck about her being an idol; to him she's just a regular person.

And as for Naoto, he met her before he really met the others. There's something about her presence that puts him at ease. She also gets points for not being afraid like the others do when they see him at school. She isn't as judging and he really likes her for that.

♘ Does he have other close friends?

Yep! He sure does. The other members of the IT. And Nanako. Because Nanako is adorable.

♘ Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?

Not really. If his looks doesn't drive a person away, then his attitude/personality definitely does. He also pushed people away from him pre-game.

♘ Which does he consider more important: family or friends?

Both. But I'm sure it leans a little more towards his family since he only has one living parental figure. Again, he's a momma's boy and is pretttty protective over her.

♘ Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?

He's too young to get married, by Japanese law one has to be 18. And alas.... He's also single in the game.

♘ Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?

He isn't really the type to do something like that. And if he did he would let his partner know.

♘ Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?

MY GUESS IS THAT GIRL WHO HE FIXED THAT BACKPACK FOR? But it's not really known/stated if he liked girls like that at that age. Currently he's crushing hard core on Naoto.

♘ What does he look for in a romantic partner?

Someone who doesn't judge him for who he is and what he likes to do in his spare time.

♘ Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?

Kanji ain't no baby daddy. But no, seriously, joking aside he has fathered no child.

♘ Does he have any rivals or enemies?

Adachi? But deep down he still sees the guy as a doofy cop.

♘ What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale?

I could easily file him under a three and call it a day, I don't... really think it suits him the best.

While Kanji's sexuality was left on a very open ended note for the players to decide; I don't think he's neither Straight, Bisexual, or Gay. Because that usually boils down to a matter of preference. To me I view Kanji as a pansexual with a slight preference for the androgynous types. He loves what's on the inside rather than what's on the outside.

A great example of this would be his interest in Naoto. When he first met her, he was under the assumption that she was was a guy. And when they hung out he wasn't really bothered by it either, because he felt comfortable around her. Even if he only knew her for a short amount of time, she was.... different. She treated him differently from how his schoolmates treated him. And, even after discovering her real gender he still liked her for who she was. Regardless of gender, love is love.

And sure, Kanji's shadow might have acted really gay, and he might have given off the impression that Kanji hates women, but he doesn't. The whole point of that why that was even brought up was because Kanji was afraid of being heckled for his interest in hobbies. Girls can be bitches yeah, but he wasn't ready for them to know that side of himself. He was afraid of being rejected.

♘ How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?

I'd imagine he'd be an awkward turtle about it. It isn't really important to him right now, so it isn't on his mind as often. Of course he thinks about it, as most boys his age do. But, to him it's got to be right. The perfect timing.

♘ What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?

Oh gosh... I could totally see him digging dressing up and doing a bit of roleplay...

Beliefs
♘ Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type?

Kanji is a Capricorn and was born during the year of the rat. I'm not sure he exactly fits everything for being a Capricorn, but, the year of the rat does suit him well in some places. I can see him being a packrat.

♘ Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?

What is religion in video games? He was probably raised under whichever religious belief as a child, but I don't know if he's practicing now.

♘ Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?

Yep! Everyone has their own personal code of how they do things or treat people. Kanji's probably developed shortly after his father passed away.

♘ How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?

I'd say he's a bit indifferent. To each their own, yeah? He's not going to judge someone for doing something that feels right to them. He will however jump in if someone's getting bashed for something that hits particularly close to home.

♘ What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?

All things considering what he went through in game? He isn't the type to hold prejudices.

Daily Life
♘ What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?

He's probably in the middle class. Since Inaba's a small town there's only so much profit one can make on a daily basis. But he and his mom manage to live a comfortable lifestyle. Nothing's really hinted at in game about anyone being in a financial crisis.

♘ What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?

He's... a student? It's still the same as he's still going to school.

♘ Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?

He lives in an itty bitty town in the country called Inaba. He lives in his store-joint-house with his mom.

♘ Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?

Fabric and sewing supplies. :'|b

♘ What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?

He sews for fun? By the end of Persona he makes and sells dolls/oven-mitt dolls. It's one of his most favorite things to do, so yes, he enjoys it thoroughly.

♘ What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?

Sewing, making things, and hanging out with his friends!

♘ What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?

He's got a healthy appetite. And he isn't really the type to skip out meals, heck he's the type to get seconds and thirds. He also doesn't drink alcohol, but can be lead to believe it with a mob mentality. aha oh kings game...
